Friday Music Playlist

March 16, 2018 - -

This is a small collection of music that I've been listening to recently. I hope you enjoy.

I haven't quite figured out how the ads on YouTube work. I assembled the playlist on my PC, and found that there were no ads other than banners. But when I later listened on my phone, I found just a ton of ads. Kind of annoying.

  • Hercules, by Guster - I just really enjoy the banjo music. Strings and piano come in later, but the banjo really carries the tune.
  • About Schroeder - Yes, this is actually a love song about the Charlie Brown character. And it's a realy beautiful song - just piano and voice.
  • Peg, by Steely Dan - Partly due to a YouTube video which dissects the song, I've come to really love this tune. I don't particularly like Michael McDonald, but the chords he hits during the second half of the chorus are awesome. I also really love the base guitar.
  • Get Out, by Chvrches - One of the newest songs by a band I really enjoy.
  • While My Guitar Gently Weeps, by Regina Spektor - This is a great cover I first heard during the end credits of Kubo and the Two Strings, an excellent Japanese stop-motion film.
  • Paper Boats, by Ashley Barrett and Darren Korb - This is a song from the soundtrack of a video game called Transistor. The game was not great, but the soundtrack is amazing. Previously, I'd enjoyed the Darren Korb soundtrack to Bastion, but the Transistor Soundtrack is even better. I'm looking forward to eventually trying out a game called Pyre, a third game with a Darren Korb soundtrack.
  • Head on Strong - Perhaps a bit of a jolting switch, stylistically. This is a band nobody's ever heard of. About a decade ago, I had a friend from work in Colorado hand me a CD with two Plan of Man albums. I've been listening ever since. It's really good music, and this is probably my favorite song of theirs.

Those YouTube ads are a huge pain - I need to find a new service to share playlists.
