Wheel of Time Coming to Amazon Prime

October 2, 2018 - -

Okay. Big news. I've been anticipating this for years, and now that it's going to happen I find myself... apprehensive. I want this show to be done well. I'd much rather have it not done than done poorly.

As announced at Tor Books today, Wheel of Time will be a one-hour action fantasy drama, a la Game of Thrones. It doesn't need all the sex and violence, and if it's done well it has the potential to be a better show than Game of Thrones.

Rafe Judkins, the showrunner, held a Q&A on Twitter recently, and while there was nothing earth-shattering therein, it might be worth a look if you're half as into this as I am.

Set in a sprawling world where magic exists but can only be used by women, the story follows Moiraine, a member of the shadowy and influential all-female organization the Aes Sedai, as she embarks on a dangerous journey with five young men and women. Moiraine’s interest in these five lies in the fact that she believes one of them might be the reincarnation of an incredibly powerful individual who prophecies say will either save humanity or destroy it.

Or both! The Dragon would save humanity and destroy it. Isn't that what the prophecies claimed? Anyway, I really want this series to be good. Here's hoping.
