Robert Santangelo is my Hero

February 2, 2007 -

Last summer, I wrote about Shawn Hogan, who was taking on the recording industry, who had falsely brought suit against him. But even before that, I wrote about Patricia Santangelo, who was being sued by five record companies who claimed that her 11-year-old son Robert had downloaded "Semi Charmed Life" by Third Eye Blind, "Can't Help Falling in Love" by UB40, "Breakout" by The Foo Fighters, "Happy" by Lit, "Nowhere fast" by Incubus, and "Whatever" by Godsmack.

Patti Santangelo the 42-year-old suburban mother of five who refused to pay up when the music industry accused her of being a pirate. After the case started to get messy, particularly when it became clear that Patti didn't know how to turn a computer on, let alone file share, the music lawyers dropped its case against her.

Now, years later, Robert is counter-suing for defamation, violating anti-trust laws, conspiring to defraud the courts and making extortionate threats. He denies sharing music using P2P technology and says it's impossible for the record companies to prove that that he did.

The Santangelos' lawyers have a page set up at RecordingIndustryvsPeople.blogspot.com where they're logging their progress.
