The Trouble with MCAD

May 1, 2007 -

Amongst all the other things I've had going on, I've been studying for MCAD certification, which if you're knowledgable about computers, you've most certainly heard of.

I've been plodding through the Windows-based Applications book, most of which is actually fairly interesting. I'll get to the Web Applications and Web Services books later, but for the time being I'm in Windows Applications. My problem with these isn't with the stuff I've used an can relate to, it's with the stuff that I've never used and probably never will. It's just really difficult to remember how to use a PrincipalPermission object or the Listeners collection when I've never used them and probably never will. Likewise, I use boxing all the time, but would never think to use that particular term for it, so I've got an additional word to memorize there.

I know that MCAD certification is really good resume material (not that I'll need to update my resume any time soon) and I've certainly learned some good stuff from the books so far, but I'd forgotten what a pain it is to study for a test. At least on the job, I can just use these things as reference.
