Heroes Season 2 Finale

December 4, 2007 -

So last night was the Heroes Season 2 finale. Apparently, the episode had always been intended to be the end of Chapter 2: Generations, but chapter 3 was going to happen during the second half of season 2. Now, apparently, we get chapter 3 for season 3.

First off, it was pretty apparent that Niki was going to die. I thought she'd be shot by a thug though. It was kind of stupid that the unpowered Niki kicked the ass of a strong young male who was probably in good shape and accustomed to fighting, then pulled the lame girl thing in the house and couldn't even crawl under the timber to save her life. I agree with the decision to kill off the character - nobody liked her. I don't agree with how it was done. Dumb. But it was interesting that she died saving someone from a fire, which is what D.L. used to do. Hopefully they do something interesting with Micah and Monica now.

Adam MonroeHow many people other than myself think that Peter is a stupid gullible idiot? He thinks that Adam can do no wrong. Meanwhile everyone else is telling him what an idiot he is, including millions of viewers whom he can't hear. Adam's walking down a hallway slicing the crap out of security guards with a katana, and Peter's got no problem with that. WTF? He should know by now that Hiro is a stand-up guy, but he doesn't listen. As a side note, Hiro teleporting all over the place was pretty damn cool. And Adam's reaction when he saw Hiro for the first time in 400 years was priceless. One of the episode's highlights for me.

Watching Nathan fly Matt in was pretty damn funny. I can see how that would be more than a bit awkward. And we got to see Hiro's arms-raised "flying man!" cheer again for one last time.

I still think Peter is an idiot for trying to tear that safe door off the hinges when he could just as easily walk through it. Hell, he could even teleport to the other side, although I guess he's never been very good at using Hiro's powers.

And how about Adam's fate? How much would that suck? But I completely called it a couple weeks ago in this post when I said "What worse fate than being buried alive and never dying?"

SylarSo it looks like Elle might be beginning to change. She's beginning to see her father for the monster he is, and she got her first taste of being a hero. I've got to say, I'm starting to like the character now that she seems to have moved away a bit from the sick domme bitch and is becoming the unsure-of-herself woman of action. Seeing how her father treats her also made her a bit more of a sympathetic character.

I've got to say - I thought Maya was going to become a villain. I'm sure everyone cheered when she got shot, but it was a fake-out. Rats. Anyway, Sylar is back! Yayyyyyyy! I imagine some serious Sylar versus Peter action next season. Peter now has a lightning power that Sylar can't block with his telekinesis, but Sylar's got the big advantage of not being a total idiot.

So Claire, who is becoming less and less interesting, decides to go public and Noah shows up to convince her not to. Hayden Pennetiere's peformance here is less than convincing, but Jack Coleman continues to be amazing. He and the woman who plays Angela Bennett are the best actors on the show. So anyway, Noah tells Claire to keep the secret. Only time will tell whether she complies.

Nathan PetrelliMeanwhile, Claire's biological father decides the same thing. He's going to go public. And Peter and Matt decide to back him up. I imagine that the only reason the network decided to give him the airtime is because of Matt's persuasion. So Nathan gives the king of all vague speeches, containing no information at all, and we get to watch another long stupid montage of the type with which Heroes always bookends its chapters. Then, just as Nathan is about to say something of substance, he gets shot. We see someone walking away - is it Noah Bennett? I suppose it's possible that the company forced him and that Angela was talking to Bob when she dropped her line about Pandora's box. Hard to imagine that Peter and Matt won't blow the whole thing open now. Well actually, I wouldn't put any stupidity past Peter, but it's hard to imagine that Matt won't go public. And I know Peter's stupid, but is he so stupid that he won't try to revive Nathan with his blood? Not sure if it'd work, but it's certainly worth a try.

So that's season two. Guess we've got to wait til next year for more. Oh well, I guess it's back to Farscape reruns and Netflix for me.
