December Update

December 15, 2008 -

So what's Greg up to? Why hasn't he been blogging at all?

I've been neck deep in Drupal 6, Joomla, and good ole web design-from-scratch work. I'm planning on reviving webFu, as it will be my primary source of income for the forseeable future.

So what are my current three projects? Firstly, Smoke Signal Construction, which I'm designing for my neighbor Paul. I'm lucky to have fantastic neighbors in Buena Vista. Smoke Signal Construction isn't yet complete, but I hope to have it up and running by the end of this week. After I get back from Connecticut in January, I plan to design the sister site, Smoke Signal Communications.

My second project is Epedia, which is a four-person collaboration. Although I've done most of the design and setup, everyone else has been writing most of the content. Linda's been busting her ass writing stuff. The whole site is the brainchild of our friends here in Buena Vista with whom we're collaborating. The idea is to put up useful information in an attempt to get people to click the ads and hopefully bring in some money. The site isn't yet very pretty, but the thought was to get content up first, then prettify it later.

The final project is the big one, the site for Lake County that I'm subcontracting on. I'd hoped to have it done before I left for vacation, but that's not going to happen. I'm doing the whole thing in Drupal, which I'm learning to like, but it's a serious bitch of a learning curve. Also, LighBox2 is awesome.

I'm also becoming a huge fan of Pandora and Hulu, which keep me entertained while I work. If I'm putting my head down and working hard, I listen to Pandora. If I'm doing repetetive mindless work, I'll bring up Hulu in a second browser on my second monitor and watch something like The Thing, The Fifth Element, or Enter the Ninja. They've got some good movies. (and some bad ones)

I've been alone here at our place in Buena Vista for the past week or so. Linda had to fly out East early for a funeral. I'll be joining her on the 20th, flying out to Newark. I can't wait to see her and Lia again.

So I'll be in Connecticut until just after the new year. I'm looking forward to seeing a lot of family and friends I haven't seen in years. I've just got about a million things to do before I leave, so I'd better get back to it.
