I commented on Twitter recently that movies of late have been lame compared to the amazing television shows and video games in late 2009 and early 2010. Clash of the Titans comes out today, and on the way home from work today, I heard it compared to Transformers on NPR. Eww. We probably won't end up seeing it until it's out on video.
When I got home, I took a look at the movies that are supposed to come out during the rest of 2010.
April 16th: Kickass - This movie was first pointed out to me by Josh, on his Ngewosworld blog. It looks like it might be a fun movie, despite the potty-mouthed ten year old girl. Linda and I will be pulling into Connecticut on April 16th with a moving van full of everything we own. Not sure if we'll be up to a movie that night, but we'll see. (trailer)
May 7th: Iron Man 2 - If there's one movie this summer to which I'm really looking forward, it's this one. The first Iron Man movie was fantastic. I'm really hopeful that this one will be as good. (trailer)
June 25th: Knight and Day may be an attempt to recreate the success of True Lies, but this time with Tom Cruise. It looks decent from the trailer, but we'll likely wait to rent it. (trailer)
July 2nd: The Last Airbender - While I've been without Linda, I've slowly been going through the cartoon series Avatar: The Last Airbender, which is what M. Night Shyamalan is basing this movie on. The cartoon series is good - it's something kids would enjoy, although it's not the kind of inane humor that would be lost on adults. Let's hope that the live action show isn't geared towards kids more than the cartoon is. (trailer)
July 9th: Predators - This film plans to take the same approach to the Predator franchise that Superman Returns took to the Superman franchise: ignore all but the first movie. That stuff never happened. This one looks like it's trying to draw from Pitch Black - it's on an alien planet. Not holding my breath on this one, but who knows - maybe the movie will be decent. (trailer)
August 13th: The Expendables - Very much looking forward to this one. I can't think of any other movie ever that has had a cast like this. The premise? A group of washed-up military guys who used to be the very best in the eighties head out on one more mission. The cast? Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis, Dolph Lundgren, Arnold Swarzenegger, Jet Li, Mickey Rourke, Jason Staitham, Randy Couture, Steve Austin, and Forest Whittaker. (trailer)
November 19th: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows, part 1 - Yes, they're splitting the final Harry Potter story into halves. I might not see this one in the theater, but Linda and I have both read all the books - we'll have to see the movies too. Even if Harry Potter is a 40-year-old highschooler by the time they film the last movie. (trailer)
November 24th: Red Dawn - Another remake. I've already lost any hope that the A-Team remake this summer will be any good. Will the Red Dawn remake be better now that it's communist Chinese invading rather than Soviets? The thing that gives me the greatest hope is that they've cast no big-name stars in the movie. Only unknowns. Maybe they were able to spend more money on a good script. There's no trailer anywhere online yet.
December 17th: Tron Legacy - They got Jeff Bridges back as an aged Kevin Flynn. Computers have changed a lot between 1982 and 2010, and that should be reflected in the world of this film. The trailer speaks for itself. I'm just glad the movie isn't called "Tr2n" anymore. (trailer)
December 22nd: Little Fockers - It's been a while since Ben Stiller has been in the goodhearted bumbling idiot role that won him his fame. Perhaps this series is humorous drivel, but it can still be fun.
December 22nd: The Green Hornet - I've been hearing about this movie for a long time. Seth Rogen as the Green Hornet. Of course, the only reason anybody remembers the original TV Series is because of Bruce Lee, so the role of Kato has always been the big question. I remember hearing years ago that Kevin Smith was going to direct and that Jet Li would be Kato. That's all changed now, and I have no idea how good the film will be.
So what movies are you looking forward to?
Not to sure if I'll like them: 'Prince of persia' in May (I loved the game) and 'Scott Pilgrim vs. the world' (Not sure when they start showing it over here)
