I just visited the apple movie trailer site and found some fairly interesting previews. Too bad that you can rarely tell from a trailer whether the movie will be very good.
War of the Worlds is going to be a big Hollywood film this summer, but there's no telling whether it will be a good film or not. This adaptation takes place in current times, but there's also another adaptation being made which takes place in the 1950's, as the original tale did.
A butterfly flaps its wings, and that minor breeze begins a chain reaction which has who-knows-what effects... The movie A Sound of Thunder, based on Ray Bradbury's short story, also has potential - I only hope they don't Hollywood the story to death. The original tale is obviously far too short for a full-length movie, so they'll have to write more. I cringe at the thought, although it's not impossible for them to do a decent job, I suppose.
The Pink Panther looks like it might be decent - not many people could carry Peter Sellers role - but Steve Martin might pull it off. And The Hitchhikers' Guide to the Galaxy is anyone's guess as to whether it will flop or not. Don't Panic.
I was a huge fan of The Nightmare Before Christmas, so I'm looking forward to The Corpse Bride. Johnny Depp does the lead voice, which is also nice. And it's been a while since I've seen Christian Slater in anything, but Alone in the Dark looks interesting. Lastly, The Fantastic Four has potential. The special effects certainly aren't lacking.
As far as the Bradbury story goes, I don't see how they can avoid the Hollywood treatment. As you say, it's just too short to make a movie all by itself. Too bad - I've always liked the story.
