More Good Music

July 12, 2005 -

As has become my new habit, I'm going to post links to a few mp3 blogs with the songs I've enjoyed most of late. This time I've got jazz and classical in addition to the regular fare. Just follow the link, find the named song, listen, and enjoy.

I'd never heard of the group named Travis until recently, but it seems that they participated in the recent Live8 Performances. A blog post at Indoor Fireworks has two songs by Travis. The first is a great acoustic tune called Love Will Come Through. The second is a cover of Queen's Killer Queen which is done so well that it's tough to tell that it's not Queen singing. That is impressive.

Todd Stadtman has some nice music with an Elvis Costello feel. Mystery and Misery's post has some of his music - I'm going to recommend Clock in My Heart.

If you like jazz, you'll probably enjoy Joey DeFrancesco's upbeat Blues for J, performed with organ, drums, bass, jazz guitar, and a very subtle horn. This is the type of stuff you can Lindy Hop to. (Hey! My other web page is linked from Wikipedia!)

Roísín Murphy does an excellent job of combining the sound of jazz crooning with a hip-hop beat in her song Sinking Feeling. Give it a listen.

Lastly, some classical piano. I found some music by a group named Sparrow over at SixEyes, and although it's all decent, I was particularly taken with the two piano pieces: Falling Forward Again and The Only Way Out. Simple, but well-written.
