Now that I've come to a kind of maturity in my podcast-listening, I'd like to re-list my favorite podcasts. I've tried many - John's list was very useful - but there were many in which I had no interest, and many I simply didn't like. Here are the ones I do like.
GeeksOn: My absolute favorite podcast, although its ranking at the podcast sites is dismally low. It's four guys from the Hollywood area who talk about all things geek. Whether it's science fiction, video games, RPGs, or tech news, these guys have got it, and they're funny as hell.
Diggnation: Available in either a video or audio version, this is a really interesting tech news show which covers some of the most popular weekly stories on digg.com, a social news site.
BostonGeek: Yes, another geek show. I'm detecting a trend in my podcasts. Colin and Carl talk about tech and about gaming. And they mailed me a videogame recently after I won their contest by identifying a Leeroy Jenkins quote. They also linked to my gripes about the RIAA.
The Dragons Landing Podcast: A show about D&D, and roleplaying games in general. I swear, if I'm ever in Missouri, I'm gonna visit Chuck and Lonnie. They're pretty cool guys, and their show makes you feel like you're hanging out with them and talking about stuff.
The Hotspot: This is GameSpot's weekly podcast about videogames. Being that GameSpot is my favorite game site (followed closely by Joystiq and 1up) I listen weekly.
Slice of SciFi: A great show about all things Sci Fi. From movies to television to books, this show is all over it.
Ron Moore's Battlestar Galactica Podcast: This podcast is done by Ronald Moore, the executive producer of Battlestar Galactica, which Linda and I watch every Friday night. Great show. Ron gives some interesting insights into the show's plot and characters, and drops some info about the show that you don't necessarily learn from watching it.
Roll 2d6: A pretty good show, even if their episodes are sporadic. They discuss board games, strategy games, and other geekery. I got hooked when they talked about Car Wars.
Lastly, a couple honorable mentions. First, Scott Sigler's podiobooks. I posted a while back about his first story Earthcore, and Scott himself commented here on my site. Since then, I've also listened to his story Ancestor, which was also good, if not as good as Earthcore. He's got a new story coming in about a month called Infection, which sounds pretty good.
Lastly, I must sing the dirge of The Transmission, a podcast about the TV show Lost which just ended permanently last week. It was a good show, and will be missed, although I'll continue to listen to The Official Lost Podcast.
