I've been following the Snakes on a Plane phenomenon since the beginning of the year, when I first blogged about it. Since then, it's become a huge joke at work, and my co-workers have even kept a daily countdown since January. The count started in the hundreds, and now it is seven. One week until Snakes on a Plane.
I blogged about the NPR story, I bought a magnetic ribbon for my car, I even bought the tee shirt.
Today, my co-worker Korry answered his cell phone at lunch and found that he'd gotten a phone call from Samuel L. Jackson. At first, we thought it was someone his sister knew doing an impression, but then he called her and found out that she'd done it from the website. It turns out that the Snakes on a Plane website has a varitalk service which allows you to send a personalized message from Samuel L. Jackson to any phone number. I sent one to Linda, and I sent one to both of my brothers. It's awesome.
At work, we got so into the joke, that my boss has decided to close shop in our development department next Friday and bring the entire programming team to a matinee of Snakes on a Plane. I can't believe it. It's going to be a blast.
