Winged Victory (which I've never heard called Nike) was actually Linda's favorite - I just think it's amazing how old it is.
But a lot of what I saw just didn't impress me. I saw Venus Di Milo (sic?) and thought "what's the big deal?" I was a bit awestruck to be ten feet from the Mona Lisa though - it's just so iconic.
A lot of the paintings that really did impress me looked like photographs - actually better, because the artists could create detail and shading instead of being constrained by what actually existed. There was one I could've sworn was actually 3-dimensional until I got close.
Nike pretty much means Victory... I guess the wings are implied. I suppose if it wasn't for this post, you would have told me about this statue Linda liked and I would have told you about the Nike and we both wouldn't have known Hesperus is Phosphorus.
