Nintendo has finally announced the price and release date for the console formerly known as Revolution. November 19th. $250. It will be mine. Oh yes, it will be mine.
Unfortunately, it looks like most Wii games will cost $50, which is a bit of a letdown for me, since I'm used to paying $30-$35 for most of the PC and PS2 games I buy. Of course, these are usually older titles, so I guess I should just be glad I'm not paying $60 like those XBox 360 owners. I will definately be picking up a copy of Eternal Darkness, and perhaps Paper Mario along with it, since it should play those Gamecube games I missed. If freakin' Resident Evil 4 hasn't come out for PC by then, I may be forced to choose between the GC and PS2 versions.
I'll also be downloading a number of older games on the Wii's virtual console, and paying $5 to $10 each for them. Let's see... Double Dragon 2 for the NES immediately comes to mind, as does Punchout, and I hear that the N64's Perfect Dark was pretty good too.
Of course, I'll have to get a number of Wii games too. Red Steel won't be available immediately, but I can get Twilight Princess and Splinter Cell Double Agent, and the Wii comes packaged with Wii Sports. Although the baseball, golf and tennis applications seem fairly straightforward, it'll be interesting to see how the Wii implements its controller for basketball, bowling, and boxing.
Update: IGN has a great review of Twilight Princess.
Update 2: Gamespot's list of launch titles is up, and includes Far Cry Vengeance and WarioWare: Smooth Moves. Gotta get those. Also, Dance Factory looks like DDR, except you can use your own CDs!! Sweet!!
I am very excited and now have to go into "no game buying" mode so that I have enough cash for November.
Let me know where you end up buying Eternal Darkness from as I've been hankering to play that game again. Not sure if it'd be hard to come by or not.
