An Autumnal Weekend

September 25, 2006 -

This weekend, Linda and I didn't drive to Santa Fe. We didn't take a day trip to Colorado Springs for a movie and kickass sushi. We didn't even go out for dinner. But we did get a hell of a lot done around the house, and I've got to say that this weekend was eventful enough.

As I began to detail in my post entitled Home Office Considerations, the main event was the complete cleanup and reorganization of two rooms in our house. The small room where we've housed our computers for the past year was less than ideal. Lots of windows made for tons of glare on my screen when I tried to play Thief: Deadly Shadows at night, plus it was so close to the TV in the living room that turning on the TV degaussed my computer monitor. Also, we've had a room on the far side of the house that for the past year we've used to house junk.

We made the junk room into my computer room, and the former computer room into Linda's craft room. Lots of furniture-moving and going through crap in boxes, but now I've got a massive L-desk and a room where I can blast my PC games without interfering with the TV.

In the middle of all this moving, I checked the mail and found that I'd received two of the new tee shirts I'd ordered. Excellent.

Saturday night, Linda and I finally got around to watching The Grudge, and both of us woke up around 4AM feeling distinctly freaked out. I've got to say, that's the first time a movie has done that to me since Jaws.

Gateway CX210XAlthough we didn't leave the house this weekend, we spent a lot of money. The biggest-ticket item was the new computer we ordered for Linda. It's a convertible tablet PC with a 2 gig Core 2 Duo processor, 2 gig of memory, an ATI Radeon X1400 64MB graphics card, a soundblaster Audigy 2 sound card, and a 14" screen, which is 2 inches larger than most convertible tablets on the market. It's a Gateway CX210X, and I hope that she loves the thing - I've always heard lukewarm reports about Gateways. It sure seems like a solid machine - the highly rated Toshibas were all more expensive for less stuff.

We also bought plane tickets to LaGuardia for our friends Anne-Marie and Brandon's wedding in November. Lastly, we bought overpriced concert tickets to the Barenaked Ladies show in Denver in November. And I found out, much to my delight, that the new BNL album is RIAA-free, on the Nettwerk Music group.

Hot tub season is beginning. It's way too hot in the summer, but last night may have edged on freezing here, and after moving furniture all weekend, our hot tub felt really good.

So that was our weekend. The new show Heroes is starting tonight, and I've got high hopes for it.

Found out yesterday that we don't actually have BNL tickets. We used TickCo.com, which was a huge mistake, apparently. We ordered the tickets Saturday, and it looked like a done deal. Then they called Linda Monday and told her that the concert was sold out. WTF??!? If I'd known that we couldn't get the tickets through that site, I'd have gone elsewhere!

You ain't kidding about overpriced BNL tickets. They're coming here to the ATL and I decided to forego tix because between the price of the tickets and the convenience charges, I'd be looking at a 70+ ticket. That's a bit too much for BNL. Don't get me wrong, I love BNL and I've seen them so I know they put on a good show, but I think the only person I'd pay 70+ bucks to see is Springsteen.

They're new album is pretty good, but I miss the chimps. ;)
