I've been getting a lot of spam posts on my site recently that simply say "Jonny". Now, I've got my site coded to strip out any HTML tags, so the links to the spam sites never show except in the name field, and I get the spam deleted fairly quickly.

But today I stopped by Technorati, a blog index, and discovered that the #1 most searched term is "Jonny". Hmm... what exactly is going on here?

This makes me believe that whoever is doing this spamming has a plan - if he spams the hell out of dozens of blogs that are indexed by Technorati, he can then check which of his posts get indexed there by running a Technorati search. Makes sense, right? And if he's doing this on a large enough scale, as I assume spammers would be, it would go to #1 on the Technorati charts.

Spam Bastard. I've got your number.
