Stuck on Replay

October 19, 2006 -

Recently, I've been a bit caught up in replaying older games. They're games I really loved, so why wouldn't I want to replay them? I've reinstalled Fallout 2 and gone a good way into it. I'm also a good way into a replay of Far Cry. I'm reinstalling Baldur's Gate 2, which I plan to play through with my wife. We played all the way through Icewind Dale 2 together, so why wouldn't we enjoy Baldurs Gate 2? I've got Chronicles of Riddick literally on-deck, the box sitting right next to my monitor awaiting installation. And I've been seriously considering Fallout Tactics and Beyond Good and Evil. I will replay them at some point.

I've got to get some of these played-through soon though, because there's a lot of good games on the horizon. Dark Messiah of Might and Magic looks really good. I played the demo, and I like it. Resident Evil 4 will be mine. If the PC version takes too long, I'm going to have to move the PS2 into my den and get that adapter to hook it to my PC monitor. At that time, I will also replay Shadow of the Colossus, and perhaps God of War.

Currently, I'm just excited about Baldur's Gate 2. It's been a while since I played it. I figure my PC will be a mage, and I'll pick up Minsc and Yoshimo. My wife can fill out the other three character slots, and I figure Imoen will be one of her three. I am going to be so disappointed if our LAN won't run this game.

I'm curious as to what games other people find very replayable, and what games people have found unplayable. By unplayable, I mean games you've given up on before finishing. I did that with the original Splinter Cell because I couldn't stand the control scheme on the PC, and with Halo and Max Payne because I just didn't like the games. I've replayed Starcraft, Resident Evil 2, Far Cry, Half-Life 2, Beyond Good and Evil, Psychonauts, Indigo Prophecy, Oblivion and Warcraft 3. Which games have you replayed?

Dungeon Keeper (Multiplayer) - Bullfrog - 1997

I love the narratives about the towns. For instance, towns like

"Cozyton: A hideous sham of a town, in which the prosperous citizens have no gripes or moans. Sadly, even the children are happy and secure. This is because they aren't punished for non-existent crimes."

- Become towns like -

"Ruiniana. Not a soul stirs here now. Even the rats are afraid to come out of the drains to feast on the dead. You really outdid yourself here Master. It's a pity the destruction was so easy."

While the imps were the weakest, they were my favorite.

I tried Dungeon Keeper II, but it just wasn't the same.

Civilization IV was disapointing to me. I've seen better demos of Rome simulations recently.
My wife and I tried City of Heroes again because of a free weekend. Just can't go back to a fun but just ok game, though.
Recently I've been playing WoW, World Series of Poker on Xbox360, Flight Simulator X, Lumines Live, etc.
On the horizon, Ookami, Bully, Justice League, Splinter Cell Double Agent (on 360), Valkyrie Profile 2, etc.
Most looking forward to buying this month: Neverwinter Nights 2 and Final Fantasy XII, both out on Halloween.

Good call, PMD. I should've thought to include Dungeon Keeper. I replayed that one last year, I think. Start to finish. Still got it, and I'll probably hit it again someday. You're right - the second one wasn't nearly as good. They railroaded you on the missions, for one thing.

I always try to replay games, but once I know the full story of the game, the magic is lost. I do commend your choice of replays though as BG2 and FO2 are two of the greatest games of all time.

Also glad to see you took Minsc, because if you didn't, I'd have to drive to Colorado and smack you. ;)

Set everything up this weekend and played for a few hours on Sunday.

I've got Minsc and Yoshimo, and Linda's got Imoen and Jahiera. Her main PC is an incredibly tough monk, and my main PC is a human ranger archer who I'm going to change into a conjurer as soon as I hit level eight.
