Earworm

November 3, 2006 -

This Wednesday, I had random songs jumping into my head every two minutes, and after a while, I decided to write them down. On Wednesday, I had Grease, September by Earth Wind and Fire, The theme from Knight Rider, Smoke on the Water by Deep Purple, The Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, The theme song to Team America World Police, Highway to Hell by AC/DC, and Colorin' (outside the lines) by Limozeen stuck in my head.

That's a lot of songs in one day. And I didn't listen to any of them - they just popped into my head. But none of them was as bad as the song that popped into my head Wednesday night. While playing Fallout Tactics, I noticed a particular character, and somehow that lead to me having a Barry Manilow song stuck in my head for the next 48 hours. Forty-Eight hours. That's a long time to be unwillingly singing Mandy.

On Thursday, Come on Eileen by Dexy's Midnight Runners managed to sneak past Barry Manilow, as did The Monkees' Valeri. And today I seem to have mostly purged Mandy from my mind. Earlier today, I was singing Ozzy's Bark at the Moon, The Beatles' Birthday, and the theme song from The Grinch. Welcome to my mind. It's a strange place.

I get ELO's "Don't Bring Me Down" a lot. In fact, I just went to a cast party for the show I just did and it was playing in the bar. Looks like I'll be hearing that song again for the next few days.
