I've just come to a realization about the Nintendo Wii's Mii Parade. For the uninitiated, the Nintendo Wii allows you to create a "Mii" for yourself, an avatar you can create which you can then use to play Wii sports. It's fun to see yourself running around playing baseball, tennis, or even boxing.
The Wii allows you to share Miis with other Wii users once you enter their friend codes. You can explicitly send certain Miis to certain people, or just mark a Mii as "mingle", which puts it into the Mii parades of friends.
I've got ten Miis in my Mii parade now, and some of them - I've got no idea where they came from. My realization came when my cousin Paul told me he'd gotten Miis in his parade that I knew were created by my friend Michael. Paul hadn't entered Michael's friend code - the Miis made their way to his console through my parade. They're viral! So for all I know, the Miis in my parade I don't recognise could have come from a friend of a friend of a friend. It's actually pretty cool.
One of the main reasons I bought the Nintendo Wii was its backward compatibility. Not only can you pop Gamecube games into the Wii, you can download older titles from the NES, SNES, N64, Sega Genesis, and TurboGrafx16. I've been playing Eternal Darkness, a Gamecube game, for about a week now, but I haven't seen anything on Nintendo's list of virtual console games that's really appealed to me yet. Sure, Super Mario Brothers and the original Legend of Zelda are classic, but I've played them before and don't have much desire to go back. They've got Street Fighter 2 as it appeared on the SNES, but that can't compare to playing it on the setup I've got in my office. Gunstar Heroes and Dungeon Explorer are games that I've never tried, but they intrigue me. Still, I've got plenty of other games I want to play, so I won't be buying them anytime soon.
The list of upcoming virtual console games has only one game in which I'm currently interested, and that's Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, which was rated a perfect 10 by some game review sites. The two NES games I would definately buy were they released would be Double Dragon 2 and Castlevania 3, neither of which is currently on the list.
