Linda and I finally saw Children of Men this weekend. I've been hearing about it for quite a while now, so it was good to finally see what all the hype has been about. I'm not sure what I expected - maybe men having babies instead of women - but that's not what the movie is about. At all.
In the mid-twenty first century, women have become infertile. There have been no children born in eighteen years. Humanity has no future. The world in general has become a pretty damn horrific place. This is the granddaddy queen of dystopic futures. Not exactly a feelgood movie. But it's got some great scenes.
It's a very indy, very Cinéma vérité kind of movie. During the most intense scenes, where Hollywood would use suspenseful music, there's no music at all.
It's violent, but it's a pretty good movie that will leave you shaken and thinking.
When I saw the previews, I really thought the main focus would be about Clive Owen and Julianne Moore reconnecting and getting back together. Well I don't wanna say too much, but damn previews can be misleading.
