This show reaffirms itself every season as my favorite show on television. Sure, Heroes takes a close second, but The 4400 breaks the mold in so many ways. You can never be sure who the good guys are and who the bad guys are. It used to be that Jordan Collier was the bad guy, then the good guy, now who knows? Isabelle was the bad guy, then she changed sides, and now - who knows? Tom Baldwin. Definately a good guy. Right? After last night's episode, who knows? Who the heck are the good guys anyway? NTAC? Promise City? Certainly not The Marked.
Personally, my favorite characters are still Dr. Burkhoff and Richard Tyler. Interesting sidenote to have Lily Tyler return as a hallucination, but I've got no idea why that was there other than filler, and to let the actress reprise the role. And Burkhoff's new research looks awesome. Lefties have a 90% chance of living, eh?
It's amazing though, how after all this time, we still don't really know a lot about the actual agendas of the people in the future. Last night, we saw the personality that was in Matthew infect Tom. We know that Sean can exorcise that persona, as he did from Kyle, but he'd have to know what was going on first. And what was going on with that "Your mind is no match for the power of my mind" deal?
It seems that this Matthew/Tom demon was directly involved with impregnating Lily with Richard's baby, and manipulating the tiny fetus such that it would become the Isabelle we all grew to know and hate. And now she is to reclaim her abilities? Will she allow herself to be manipulated as she was by Matthew, and guided to destroy The 4400? Isabelle was scary when she had powers.
So let's take an inventory of apparent bad guys and good guys, assuming that the people who sent the original 4400 were "good" and that the people who sent Isabelle and The Marked are bad. Dr. Burkhoff: definately a good guy. He's working to save lives. Sean Ferrell: good guy, wisely finding a middle road. Tom Baldwin. Before, he was of one mind with NTAC, and seemed to mean well regardless of whether NTAC's agenda was "good" or "bad". Now, he seems to have unwillingly entered the ranks of The Marked, and I'd label him as bad. Jordan Collier seems almost to be becoming that which he claims to want to prevent: he's building that walled city, and seems insistent now that all people everywhere have to take Promicin, regardless of the fact that half will die. I thought he was good, but now I'm not sure. Richard Tyler? Badass, yes. Bad guy? Don't think so. But what is his role? He seems totally unaffiliated, and now he's been jailed by NTAC. I'm betting he doesn't stay there long. Maybe Isabelle will get her powers back and break him out. Hope not - I'd have been happier if she'd stayed a toddler.
Lastly, why does every TV show I like have at least one podcast dedicated to it except The 4400? When I google The 4400 Podcast, the #1 result is my own site. Pretty disappointing.
Good episode.
