Last night's season 2 premiere of Heroes started off slow, but so did the first season, so I'm not taking this as a bad sign. It's certainly not as if nothing happened.
The Bennett family has moved from Texas to California, hiding from The Company. Ostensibly trying to remain obscure, Claire still does things like hold her hand over a Bunsen burner, and Noah manhandles his jerkhole boss. Oh - and Claire's future boyfriend can fly. This brings up an interesting issue - the duplication of powers. This is the first power we've seen more than one person have. If powers can be duplicated, it opens a whole new world of possibilities.
I was really happy to see the actor who played Werner Brandes in Sneakers and Ned Ryerson in Groundhog Day show up in heroes as an unnamed guy I'll call Mr.Midas. Mohinder has befriended him in the hopes of infiltrating The Company. Looks like he's made up with Noah after their dispute over Molly and the two of them are now working together. I'm just concerned over this "virus" that affects only people with powers. This is likely the big crisis of the season, even more than the as-of-yet unnamed and faceless villain.
Mohinder seems to have jointly adopted Molly Walker along with Matt Parkman, although Matt is the live-in-dad. Matt is kicking ass as a cop with the help of his ability, although Molly isn't doing very well. She's having crazy night terrors about this boogeyman of hers.
And the boogeyman makes an appearance shortly thereafter. It seems that both Hiro's father Kaito Nakamura and the Petrelli brothers' mother Angela Petrelli have gotten death notices from him. And he shows up in a sinister hoodie and tackles Kaito off the roof. Damn! I was really hoping we'd get to see Kaito's power! I certainly hope that Angela doesn't bite it before we get to see what she can do.
Something interesting about what Kaito was saying though. He says there used to be thirteen of them. Linderman, Devoe, Mr. Petrelli, and two others have died. Now there are nine left. Then Kaito dies, leaving eight. I can only guess that this boogieman is one of them - Kaito certainly recognizes him. And the method of murder leaves many possibilities for his power. He could have flown or teleported away before hitting the ground. But what I think is that he's another empath, like Peter. But he's not nearly as goodhearted as Peter. And if he is an empath, we know at the very least that he can heal others and see prophetic visions, since those are the only two abilities we know of amongst that original group.
Speaking of Peter, he shows up half-naked in a shipping crate that's supposed to be full of iPods. And he's got... amnesia. What a tired plot element. Ugh. So what precisely happened with him and Nathan? Nathan obviously thinks Peter is dead, and he's grown a crazy mountain man beard and drinks like a fish. What was up with Nathan's vision of himself horribly burned?
The story of the brother and sister coming up through South America in search of a cure for the girl's murderous ability is interesting - we'll see where that one goes. And Hiro's hero turns out to be not Japanese at all - but rather English. Interesting. And we know he's got an ability. Can't wait for next week.
the duplication of powers, to me it seems we already know it can happen. Remember when Claude met Peter, he recognized him as an empath. He said he had encountered them before. (Or something like that, I could look up my reviews, but you get the picture.)
I wonder if Ned Ryerson's power, or Mr.Midas is limited to gold, or does he have the power of transmutation, maybe he's from Fullmetal Alchemist?
