Linda and I recently saw a movie called Sunshine. It's an independent science fiction picture about a doomsday scenario: in the near future, the Earth's sun is dying. Eight years ago, a ship called the Icarus was constructed in orbit. Its payload: a colossal nuclear bomb with the mass of Manhattan Island. Its mission: restart the sun. The ship was launched, and never heard from again. Now, Earth's eternal winter has begun, and construction of the the Icarus II is complete. We've mined the sum of Earth's fissile material to build a second superbomb. This is Earth's last hope.
I was pleasantly surprised by the movie, despite it being an independent film. It stars Cillian Murphy, who played Scarecrow in Batman Begins and the bad guy in RedEye. It's also got Chris Evans who played Johnny Storm in Fantastic Four and Michelle Yeoh from Memoirs of a Geisha. The movie is a bit slow at times, and I can see some people taking issue with the ending in the same way I took issue with the ending of the Will Smith vehicle I Am Legend, but overall it was a good movie, and I recommend it.
