It's been almost two years since I last looked into my crystal ball, and I figured I'd give it another shot. This time, I've looked into the future to see the best TV shows and movies of the next decade. Please enjoy the following precognition.
2010 - World War Z - J. Michael Straczynski's script based on the novel written by Mel Brooks's son Max turns into an incredible movie. Paul Blackthorne portrays a journalist interviewing survivors of a worldwide zombie holocaust, and the bulk of the movie consists of flashbacks to the decade-long struggle against the undead. The movie wins best picture of 2010, beating out The Champions and Spider Man 4.
2012 - Macross - This live-action television series was planned after the success of the 2009 film Akira. Based on the 1982 japanese animated series, and first airing on its 30-year anniversary, Macross stars Donald Sutherland as Captain Global of the SDF-1, Chad Faust as fighter pilot Rick Hunter, Devon Aoki as Lynn Minmay, and Wayne Pygram as Zentraedi Fleet Commander Breetai. Fans of the show hail it as the best thing since Ron Moore's Battlestar Galactica.
2015 - Wheel of Time, the animated series - Following the successful release of the highly anticipated novel A Memory of Light, which appeared on the market six years later than originally promised, the animated series delivers everything fans loved about the books, while removing the boring bits. The first six seasons of the show correspond with the first six novels. The final three seasons, ending in 2023, cover the other seven books. Wheel of Time is the highest-rated cartoon since The Simpsons.
2015 - M. Night Shymalan's Call of Cthulhu - When this movie was announced in late 2013, the internet fan community went crazy. Speculation about the movie's plot resulted in numerous fan-written scripts and a number of fan-created "leaked scenes". The movie stars Edward Norton, Stephen Root, Tim Curry, and Mahershalalhashbaz Ali.
2018 - Shadows of the Empire - Billed as Star Wars: Episode 5.5, this adaptation of Steve Perry's 1996 novel takes place between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Its main draw is that new CG technologies can now render youthful versions of Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher that interact seamlessly with the other live actors. In addition to the voice talents of Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Billy Dee Williams, the film stars Matthew Yang King as Prince Xizor and Tobey McGuire as Dash Rendar.
Your crystal ball also forgot to show you that A Song of Ice and Fire becomes the highest rated series on HBO since the Sopranos.
Also, showcasing the talents of Mahershalalhashbaz Ali is a stroke of genius, he'll singlehandedly carry the film.
