Postscript

May 28, 2008 -

This is a follow-up to my previous post, Going Postal. We're still getting the neighbors' mail. I sent this complaint today to USPS:

I'm still having a problem with my mail. Two of our monthly bills have not arrived this month. Last week, I received different pieces of our neighbors' mail on three consecutive days. And yesterday I received our neighbor's electric bill along with our own electric bill. This is a problem that must be fixed! Two months ago, I sent a complaint about this same problem, and the only attempt at a solution I've seen is a piece of paper inside our mailbox that reminds the carrier to "check name". I was disappointed with that solution, as it seems it would only prevent us from getting our neighbors' mail, and do nothing to prevent the greater problem of our neighbors receiving our mail. When we miss bills, we don't pay them, and that's very bad for us!

Please do what you can to ensure that we receive the mail that is addressed to us.

I'm under no delusions that this second complaint will succeed where the first failed, but I felt obliged to send it anyway, as we've gotten the neighbor's mail on 4 of the past 7 days.

**They** are going to turn you into that guy who has boxes and boxes of "Suspicious Activity" all written down on scrap pieces of paper. Write this down on a slightly used paper napkin and put it in a box labeled '2008'. It's a conspiracy.

Seriously, keep a log with dates and times. Track the unreceived bills too. When possible, use 'Zip+4'. I don't know about your area, but my 'Zip+4' number (-##50) only belongs to houses on my side of the street. The houses across the street have a different number (-##49).

By itself, this probably won't do much... but every little bit helps. Let's hope you don't have Jury Duty or something.

Considering where you live, it's almost got to be the carrier. Tell the Postmaster that you're composing a letter to your state Rep and your Congress critter. If that doesn't get his attention, write the letters. This is an election year.
