Tears of Joy: Beyond Good and Evil 2 is Official

May 28, 2008 -

Beyond Good and Evil 2For a long time now, there have been two games to which I've been looking forward and drooling. Metaphorically. Fallout 3 and Starcraft 2. Now I can add a third, and it trumps the positions of the other two in my eagerly-anticipated list. As part of the UbiDays 2008 event, these screenshots and an accompanying "debut teaser" have blown my mind. From the look of things, after the poor sales of the first game, Ubisoft decided to go with the high-def consoles: XBox 360, Playstation 3, and probably PC. While none of that has been officially announced, it seems fairly apparent from the look of the graphics. Sorry, Wii! At least you got Strong Bad!

For anyone who hasn't played the original Beyond Good and Evil, (I've played it three times) you absolutely need to give the game a shot. It's a brilliant story-driven action/adventure game with elements of fighting, stealth, driving, platforming, and minigames. It's also my favorite game of all time, and so my expectations for its sequel probably border on unrealistic.

Still, I'll be following every tidbit of news I can get on Beyond Good and Evil 2, and you'd better believe I'll be buying the game on launch day, even though it likely won't come out until 2010.

You can see three screenshots from the trailer here.

Tried to play the original one today. This centipede thing came out of the sky and keeps killing my hovercraft... can't get past this part. If it's this difficult in the beginning, I can only imagine how frustrating it's going to get.
